Nanny Jenni visits Iceland at Christmas

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas and New year! Over the Christmas holidays I went away to visit Iceland which has been on my bucket list for quite some time.

My trip to Iceland

If you haven’t been to Iceland it’s one of those places you should visit sometime in your life. Yes, it’s cold so you will need to pack lots of thermal clothing and layers. But there are the Northern lights, whale watching, beautiful scenery and hidden ice caves to explore plus much more.

While I was there I saw the Northern lights, swam in the Blue Lagoon, explored the Golden Circle and went Whale watching. But there is so much more I could have done and go and see. We only visited for four days though we just picked our favourites.

My favourite experience while visiting Iceland would have to be exploring the Golden Circle. It’s a long day with a lot of walking and the temperature hit -16 but it was all worth it. I watched the geisers explode, saw the Gullfoss waterfall and walked through the gorge where some of Game of Thrones was filmed. Also at the Gullfoss waterfall is where my other half of 4.5 years proposed to me! So I am now engaged!

Whale Watching Tour

Whale watching was easily my second favourite thing to do while being here. I saw dolphins, killer whales and a humpback whale. To see killer whales was actually classed as a rare sighting. Our tour guide said you only see them on average five times year. So we were one of the lucky ones. The whale watching tour took half of the day and was VERY cold. Our faces were actually in pain while we stood up on the deck on the lookout.

This year is going to be a busy one with all the wedding planning but I can already tell it’s going to be a good year!
